HANDS FREE VIDEO CALL HEADSET..

NTT DOCOMO PRODUCT:

NTT Docomo has developed the Hands-Free Videophone, which enables video calls without having to hold the camera. This is part of docomo’s research on creating future glasses-type devices.



The Hands-Free Videophone captures the user’s face with three cameras in each of the left and right sides of the frames. The video sent to the other person is created by combining the pictures with a pre-rendered 3D model of the users face.

“Each camera has 720p resolution, and a fish-eye lens, with a 180-degree field of view. This is the High Definition picture currently being captured in real time. If you look at the face, you can see it’s really distorted, because the fish-eye lens is so close. The distortion is compensated, and the picture is combined with a 3D model of the person in the computer. Currently, priority is given to the part around the eyes. As you can see when the man closes his eyes, the eyelids and the corners of the eyes appear quite realistic. Such a level of realism is hard to achieve with models like CG-based avatars, where parts are overlaid on the face.”

APPLE iWATCH:Rumoured

APPLE iWATCH like iPHONE iPAD

The Apple iWatch is rumoured to be in some form of production right now – we round up the news and speculation on its specs, features and potential release date.

Apple is rumoured to be developing a wrist watch of some description, which would most likely synch up with an iPhone or iPad to give you updates on you’re wrist, allow you to control other devices and pull data from the cloud.

Supposedly a team of ‘about 100 product designers’ are working on the iWatch – including managers, marketers and software and hardware engineers who previously worked on the iPhone and iPad. 

That’s according to two people ‘familiar with the company’s plans’, which puts them in a remarkably small category.

A further two informers claiming to be au fait with Apple’s various super-plans say it is experimenting with a ‘wristwatch-like device made of curved glass’, operating on iOS. 

The NYT notes Corning has developed bendable glass last year called Willow Glass which could be used to wrap around something wrist, and cites Forrester’s claim that “Apple’s certainly made a lot of hiring in that area”.

While early possibilities led us to believe an iWatch would be effectively an iPod Nano on a strap, the latest developments are much more intriguing. According to a patent application unearthed by AppleInsider, Cupertino has been investigating the possibility of a wraparound design similar to the slap bracelets of the early 1990s.

Google Code Jam 2013

  In 2013, Google Code Jam will mark its tenth year of bringing the world's coding community together to solve tough algorithmic puzzles. Last year tens of thousands competed, but there could only be one Code Jam Champion: Poland's Jakub Pachocki (meret), who took home the title and the first prize of $10,000.

 Google Code Jam has changed a lot since our first tournament in 2003. People who were contestants back then are now entering their sixth year of running the event, and champions from 2006 to 2009 will help ready the competition for 2013. On top of that, we have a few other changes to announce this year. 

First: $10,000 was a nice prize for previous years' winners. But in 2013 the stakes are higher: the next Code Jam Champion will claim $15,000. 

Since 2009, we've made a habit of moving our finals from city to city each year. 2013 will be no exception, as we welcome our finalists to Google's office in London, the historic capital city of the United Kingdom. We're also adding a day to their stay, to give them more of an opportunity to appreciate the city. 

If you want to explore the world's most-visited city with 25 of the world's best programmers, you'll need to get practicing: registration will open on March 12, 2013!
